Early Morning Treasure Hunt

I hustled out the door this morning to make it to the first hour (7 AM) of the first day of an estate sale by Divide and Conquer, a.k.a. Martha Dunlap, organizer and estate sale person extraordinaire.  I had banned myself from going to Martha's sales because of just this...

This makes my fifth one of these little boxes.  Could I possibly need another set of tarnished silverplate?  No.  Do they irresitably call my name?  Obviously.

I think I need an intervention.  I did tell Martha, that when I die, she will have these to sell again.  =)

And, then there was this... It is a beautiful hand embroidered, crochetted bedspread.  So much work.  Beautifully done.  It makes me sad to see pieces like this, so lovingly created, with no one to appreciate it... Where is the family of this incredible hand-worker?  Was there none or did they just not care?

I hope she knows someone admired her work today and brought it home to love.
The silverplate, that's just sick.  Off to the next adventure...

What beautiful treasures! It is awfully sad that a grand-daughter or niece didn't want them. Or even sadder...maybe there were no grand-daughters or nieces.:( Well, I dub you the honorary niece and you just got one heck of an inheritance!

I agree - wouldn't it be wonderful to talk to the woman whose hands made those things? Gorgeous. We don't do work like that anymore.

Um, what's that about Martha having to sell off the silverware when you're gone? Ahem. May I direct your attention this way, please?

Along that same note, thank goodness you have someone to pass those beautiful linens along to who will enjoy them, too!

You found some great treasures! Isn't it funny how some things that you really don't need any more of always find their way to your house!

I think it's funny that your purchases take up the whole chair.
Sick...no.
Crazy...maybe.
Deal...you bet!

That is a fabulous friday favorite!
Once my sister bought an oil painting at a flea market just because on the back it said 'don't throw this one away'.

Looks very similar to my mother's Community silver plate set and the original lined wooden box it came in. I adore it!

I can't believe you have so many sets of vintage silver...when I only have two!!!!
Yes, an intervention may be necessary for both of us. Do you think we could get a special rate for 2!
Love the bedspread.

Noni! I SO understand you!!! I look at these amazing treasures and feel so sad that a family member did not snatch up the item. I love to think of the stories that go along with a bedspread like this one...the HOURS of work and how satisfying it was for the crafter to display it beautifully on that bed!! Or, the wonderful parties and meals that the silverware served!!

Ummmmm, hubbie calls me a SUCKER for such things. I am. I will NOT apologize! ;)

What a beautiful bedspread!

When I see things while I'm out thrifting, I often wonder why items ended up at thrift stores and not with family as you mentioned. It really gets you thinking.
