Striving to Thrive...

I'm feelin' a bit overwhelmed. I jumped off into the "change the decor" mode... and, the full implications of that are hitting home. Truth is, it's not just the decor that I'm working to change. There are some things I need to change about my life.

While I've been clicking along on these little projects, I've been thinking about the subjects of surviving, striving and thriving. I'm a big believer in thriving. I do belive life throws us some curves... some bumps in the road... some roadblocks... and, sometimes, even a few dead ends. We may have to work to keep putting one foot in front of the other while we survive these times.

Sooner or later, we get our feet back under ourselves... then, it becomes a choice... to continue to just get by... to survive. Or, to choose to thrive. When we choose to thrive, it requires striving sometimes... Striving to make the changes, do the deeds, dig deeper, move ahead.

Whatever the effort involved in the striving... it's always worth it when we are finally thriving...
So, the question is: What would it take in your life for you to thrive? What is it taking? I am thinking after the first of the year we need to have a day we post about this... a Thriving Day... a Striving to Thrive Day... We could encourage each other. Have some accountability. Hmmmm... Well, that's what I've been thinking while I've been clicking away... Any takers???

I'm a taker :) I want to make my life mean more. Not just the big picture but I want to see the worth in the small things. I want to do more things with my family - not planned big events but just "live" with my family. Enjoy the moments. I want to breathe them in so as not to let all the good stuff slip away. Basically to quote Tim McGraw- I want to live like there is no tomorrow- EVERY DAY.

I'm in. You say when and I'm in. Seems like this time of year always brings out the introspective side of me...guess it does all of us. That's what the "new" year is all about. Again, I'm in.

ps - the sweater, the scarve the hat - they are divine.

Oh, Tammy!! You are all over it, girl! I was listening to that Tim McGraw song just yesterday. And, as for the moments with family... that's been a big struggle for me. Not having those moments with my daughter (and now grandson). But, when I look at that compared to your beloved being in Afganistan... well, I need to pick my pouting lip up off the floor and move on. But, YES!! Breathe in every moment... my favorite quote is by Thoreau... sucking the marrow from life (I'll have to look that up to quote it exactly... but, you've got the idea... thriving!)

Solar, I'm thinking the last week of December... or first week of January... so, be introspecting away.

Deb, I think you have already beaten us to this this year! What an inspiration. You'll be taking it to the next level! =)

What shall we call this mission??

Funny thing - I've been thinking about this very thing myself lately. I'm ready for thriving. Because quite frankly, I'm sick of just surviving. I am happy to report that I've turned a corner, but I know the road is long.

Next Christmas I have decided that the Correa household will have a new tradition: the blessing tree. It will go up the weekend after Thanksgiving. And each night, every member of this family will write one thing they're grateful for on a paper ornament to hang on the tree. By Christmas, it will be chunky-jam-packed full of counted blessings. Then, I will pull them off and put them in a box to save for years to come. I think counting blessings is a critical step towards thriving.

Count me in on your mission.

AC: I think we each need the other make to the turn... and, keep moving... and, so we will. I LOVE the blessing tree idea! Gratitude seems to be the most essential element of thriving.

Nanny, we enjoyed the "first week" in Dallas a couple of months ago ourselves. =)

I love the idea of the blessing tree. What a great way to focus on the positive. And keeping them to look over from year to year would be so much fun and a great tradition!

Found this post, and have to say that I'm trying to thrive myself, sometimes slip-siding backwards. Emmatree put it this way - "unfurling" and I asked her if I could borrow her word. I'm still unfurling after the past couple of years & trying to keep a positive attitude. I used to thrive and go 90 MPH all the time & then I hit a brick wall. Can I join you all?
