Joy and Sorrow

"Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow.
And he answered:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And, is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But, I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.
Verily, you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall. ~ Kahlil Gibran

I'm back from Virginia. I have experienced both great joy and great sorrow with the meeting of my sweet grandson and then leaving he and his mom behind as I came home to Texas... Alex is precious beyond expression... Just as his mom was and is still, to me, this day... Such great, great joy.

I know it must be hard to be back. I can only imagine. I'm glad you got to spend some time with baby Alex and I KNOW Amanda appreciated it. XOXO Dana

I'm so glad you were able to have such a nice extended stay with Amanda. I remember when my Mom left me after I had Connor and I just cried and cried. There is nothing like having Mom around during these special (and trying) times. And from the pics, it looks like Alex has already bonded so much with his Noni! I hope you'll be able to see them all again very soon. Congrats on your first grandchild, and what a cutie he is!!!

Yes. GREAT joy. And GREAT sorrow. I'm trying to focus on the great joy. For the time we had together. For the time when you come back in August. And for the blessing of having you as my mother and Alex's Noni. We love you beyond expression. XOXO

So sweet! So glad you were able to be there for Jerry, Amanda and Alex! I know that was such a big help. And so jealous you have gotten to see him, hold him and kiss him. Hope we can go soon! Glad you made it home safe.
