Captivated and a Vote

Captivate:  To capture as by beauty or excellence. (New Webster's Dictionary)

Recently, I saw a pattern on Ravelry that absolutely captivated my imagination!  I couldn't wait to start.  With a choice of only dark brown, bright orange or pastel green as a mohair background color, I forged ahead with dark brown because I just could. not. wait. a moment longer. (If you look around, you can tell I don't hate the color brown.)

Dreambird by Nadita Swings.

Four feathers down and several more (about 16) to go, I simply love it.  However, note that my tailored, conservative daughter did confirm my suspicions that this does not qualify as an "heirloom knit":  as in, she will not really appreciate this one after I'm "gone".  LOL!  While I on the other hand can hardly wait to don my wings.  (Though it does look like I won't be able to take flight for awhile... I'm slow with this one.)

The Monster has a mouth.  Now, for a votechange the green trim to dark b-yue or leave it green?

May something captivate your imagination this week...

I say change the color to whatever will get it on that cute little head. My dear friend is going to be a grandmother in August. She is also a fine knitter. This morning, I told her that when we are next together, I'm going to show her your blog and Amanda's blog so she can get some adorable ideas for a wee one. Of course, I'll be sure and scroll to find that adorable little dress as well.

Best,
Bonnie

What an outstanding pattern,. I can see how it caught your heart. Looking forward to a real class ending on this one. As to the trim color on the hat....I think your little man is ready to express his own opinions. I say go for his advice. Susan

Love what your are knitting and I love the green on the hat.

Well, I happen to love the green, but the little head for which it is intended wasn't fond of green as I recall. So... I am voting b-you.

And I laughed about the nonheirloom, which I happen to agree is very pretty!

What's with our daughters?
Mine keeps asking me, "When you die, can I have that?".
(She isn't as refined as your daughter.)

Strut your feathers like a Peacock when you wear your shawl because it's beautiful.

Voting for blue only because Big Little Man wants blue.

Tell your lovely daughter my address...I think it is heirloom quality...great colors and a little quirky!
The green? Hmmmm. I think perhaps, Biggest Little Man doesn't think this one is heirloom either, but will Roo wear it? Of course, Roo will probably wear it no matter what color and BLM might weari it if it is b-yue...so, maybe go ahead and make it b-yue. That's my vote.

I wish I had the words to tell you how pretty I think that is. Breathe taking.

And I like the green - the way it is.

My goodness I love this, Tanna! Just beautiful! And so unusual. As for the cap, I love the green but think it would be fun to ask your little man what color he would like it to be.

Casting the vote from the only one who matters over here: "b-yue. I want it all b-yue. No other colors." And there you have it. LOL!

I love it all. And if you ever quit loving that chair, send it my way. I'll pay. :)

Oh I love the lime green..it is just toooooooooooooo precious!

The Dream Bird colors and design are exquisite! I love wearing brown! As to the adorable Monster cap, how hard is it to change the colors? I'm thinking, for you, not very. The green is striking and adorable but apparently the only vote that matters on the comment board has already been heard: b'yue! ;-)

That is an amazing piece you are working on --heirloom for someone .. you do have that granddaughter ... who may appreciate it many years later. It certainly looks beautiful right where it is and the colors are wonderful. As to the hat, I love the green as it makes it even more fun, but if your little young man has a choice, send him the picture and ask him. I remember my grandfather involving me in some decisions like that --all in fun and to make me feel important of course, He wrote me an official letter on his office stationery and had drawn three types of ties in three circles, asking me to suggest which one I thought my father would like for a Christmas present. :-)

Oh, Tanna...I love it! I saw your photo on ravelry this morning as well. I want one, too! Of course it's an heirloom. We don't all love the future heirlooms when we're young. They assume their high status much later.

I was also captivated by the rug on your footstool.

Stephanie V said...

Oh, forgot my vote. I like the green because it is more monster-ous. But I think my grandson would tell me to change to the blue.

I like the green....but, b-yue it probably must be!!! I'm captivated by that knit, too!!!! It's lovely----and if daughter is anything like mine---she just might change her mind when she sees it done!!!
