Kimono, Heartache and 15 Bean Soup

I finished this little kimono Monday and it is off in the postal system somewhere...

I was in need of some cheerful colors and a fun little pattern.

The pattern was Koko Kimono, free on Lion Brand Yarn's site, and it filled a need I had.  The colors are Sweetpea, Aqua and Pink Poodle in Vanna's Choice Baby.  I added the little I-cord tie instead of the one the pattern called for.  I wanted a little splash of pink.  =)  It made me smile.

This, on the other hand, caused a catch in my heart.  Funny how you will be going along all fine-and-dandy, then you run across something like a tiny sock... left behind from your Little Man's last visit.  For a moment, the ache of missing those little feet is overwhelming... Then, life goes on again.

And, you make yourself a pot of 15-bean soup with cornbread and a nice salad... and Nellie's Shortbread for dessert... Okay, yes.  I use food for medication sometimes.  But, hey, bean soup is healthy, no?  Just don't know about the butter slathered on my cornbread... or that shortbread... Oh, well.  It was good.  And, comforting.

I'm linking with Sandi's Friday Favorites at the Whistle Stop Cafe.

Hope you find comfort somewhere in your day.  Shalom.

** 1/15/11  Just had to add this photo of Kaitlynn in her kimono!  Thank you, Lauri!

What a sweet, sweet kamono.
Yes, that sock would have gotten me, too! The little things really get us, uh?
Now those beans look and sound great....you know how I love beans and cornbread!!!

Tanna, that is so cute. I guess it is for the new one coming. That soup sounds good along with the cornbread and shortbread, too. Mine always leave a bib or a pacifier when they leave.

"Kimono" is a word I shall probably become very familiar with in the future. Yours is very cute. Thanks for encouraging me :D

The pink is just the right punch for the little Kimono.

15 Beans! I didn't know there were so many different kinds of beans!
Very pretty soup.

Oh. My. Goodness. I saw your post and the precious Koko Kimono when I was blog-surfing on my iPhone, and then imagine my surprise when I opened my mailbox this evening to find Koko tucked sweetly in there for our own little K. I couldn't have been more delighted and touched by your thoughtfulness, Tanna! And you know my obsession with little girl clothes...I immediately began scanning K's inventory to find the perfect accompaniments to such a knitted treasure. I can't wait to show off K's kimono, knowing it represents loving hugs from a super special Noni. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your awesome talent with us!!

The kimono is adorable...I love your color choices. And I have to ask...what made you think to hang it in a snow-covered tree? Brilliant! Such pretty pictures.

Shalom!

Tanna said...

Chel, I couldn't really say exactly what made me hang it in the tree to take photos. LOL! It was gloomy inside... the snow was pretty... next thing I knew, I was outside with the kimono in a tree. Thank you. You are most kind.

The kimono is so sweet! I love the photos of it on the icy branch! Catalog quality photo...I would like to order FIVE! ;)

I adore bean soup but have NEVER seen this one! I am off to check out the recipe. FULL of protein...so you have to cut it with buttery cornbread and short bread RIGHT??????

Cheer up, you are one day closer to seeing Little Man again!!

The kimono is darling and I, too, love the colors.

Yes, food can be very healing = ) !!

Did you do the soup in your new pressure cooker? I've thought about purchasing one. My MIL did wonderful meats in her's. My own mother was scared to death of her's!! What kind did you get?

Now, go put another mark on the calendar as you count down those days. Or, maybe you should just hop a plane and get that sock back to L.M.. His little foot might be cold!!

Best,
Bonnie

LOVE the sweater. Just saw Lauri's comment. Can't wait to see Kaitlynn wearing it. She will be SOOOO cute! And I share your love of beans and cornbread. I just bought a bag of pinto beans to make with cornbread. YUM!

p.s. I'm making the asparagus with bacon on Sunday when Katherine's family comes over for our monthly dinner. Sure wish Amanda and her crew were here too. :-(

LOVE the way you displayed that sweater! Made me want to snatch it right up, but alas, no children yet!

Nice shot of the kimono, but photographically I like what you did with the bean soup. Looks very healthy and easy on the eyes with good angle and DOF.

I don't know anyone else who can make a pot of beans look so pretty. That is a great shot.

And the sweater is so cute and I can't wait to see sweet Kaitlynn in it. You know Lauri will have her dressed so cute in it and I can't wait to see the pictures!

Stay warm!

Saw your picture icon at Savvy Southern Style and your house looks a lot like mine--although I call mine a "cottage," it's really a bungalow. I'm a knitter too and love your little baby sweater. Please drop by sometime for a visit.
Best,
Susan

Ah the kimono! Do you share your patterns? I love this. It's like a little sweater. Also the beans--reminds me of my calico bean recipe. Have you made that? I always make it when nephew/wife/four daughters come as they did this year before new year's as it's one of his favorites and has become a tradition re. their visit. And, after they left I also found one solitary little sock!

sigh.

Oh such beautiful knitting. Always wished I could. I have knitted a great big bag with feltable wool yarn than washed it and had a purse. It was fun but it was only one stitch.
Your blog and home is beautiful.

What is it about seeing little bitty things that makes our heart ache? I had a horrible heart ache when it was time to say goodbye to some of the girls outgrown clothes.

The kimono is beautiful. The pink really makes it pop! You are so very talented. That is especially evident when seeing all your creations from last year!

Hope you are having a very blessed beginning to this new year!

Ah..Sweet Tanna ~ following a visit from my precious granddaughter I once discovered a tiny bar of baby soap that was used to give her a bath. Sista ~ I vacuumed sealed that soap and have it to this day! Oh my..did I say all this outloud? I just can't help myself when it comes to my angel baby. Thing is..now you're going to have TWO to share these stories with once they're grown. Yes..There's simply nothing quite like the love from a grandmother..

Ok, you've talked me into fixing beans and cornbread this weekend. Love bean soup and haven't had it in a while. The kimono is A.D.O.R.A.B.L.E! The recipient was blessed! Have a great week; maybe the sun will shine and cheer us.

yes, those *little socks* can sadden the heart, but seeing Kaitlynn in your beautiful kimono sweater must have made your heart soar!

bean soup looks yummy and it's better than a pint of Eydie's ice cream!!!

What Karen Sees said...

This is the cutest little kimono I've ever seen. How absolutely adorable, as is the 'model'. I know what you mean about missing the little ones who mean so much. When we left our daughter's house after our visit to Arizona to see them, I was sad thinking about when I would see these 3 grandchildren again, but I didn't have much time to mourn as we soon received the news that I had a brand new grandson to look forward to meeting! Life does go on!

Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti said...

This is such an adorable kimono and looks so pretty on the cute little recipient!

I SKYPED with my grandson this past weekend and since then I've dreamed about him every night. I miss him so much and in my dream he was asking me why I lived far away...sigh. I guess it's because I was happy to hear him learning how to ask questions and it was on my mind. I guess it never gets easy to be far away.

I love 15 bean soup mix! Very nutritious and delicious!
