Afternoon Armadillo

It was so beautiful yesterday afternoon.  We enjoyed a sunny 79 degree gift in the middle of winter.  I couldn't resist playing 9 holes of golf...  As I was walking along I noticed a little critter rooting at the edge of the fairway.

Yep, it was an armadillo... out digging around at 2 in the afternoon like no one else was there...

He let me get right up to him and I probably could have gotten a photo from the front, but I began to wonder WHY he was out in the middle of the day... like he was the only creature around... and then I considered rabies... (they may not even get or carry rabies... but, your mind will go places when things seem a bit out of the norm.  Ha!).  So, I satisfied myself with this little shot of his hind quarters.  Seeing him was a nice little surprise!  The golf was pretty ugly; but the afternoon was sublime!  AND, I got my walk in while doing something fun.

Hope you are finding a fun way to get moving this week, too.

ps TexWis I went to see the red-winged blackbirds on this hole!  NO blackbirds, but an armadillo!

ah, you got back to the golf course! i've been told that armadillos are quite blind and deaf so they don't really sense your presence well. also, don't touch them as they're known to carry the bacteria that causes leprosy.

I saw a lot of armadillos when we lived in Texas but none were alive. And, I'll never forget the groom's cake in Steel Magnolias!!

Best,
Bonnie

Well how fun was that. I think his little hindquarters are quite cute.

How nice that you play golf. Wonderful outdoor sport.

Good for you, what a lovely way to spend part of the day. These warm days are such a gift. I told my husband we should rent a house in Florida for the winter! Haha
Why stay where it's yucky!!

Oh, that's too much! No armadillos here in Ohio!

It was 7 degrees here this morning!

My dogs chase after one around here every night. They are fast. And, they actually are carriers of leprosy.

Happy about your golfing but not so happy at the thought that we are bringing our dog with us to Texas and we might meet up with an Armadillo . . . Oh dear . . .

Leprosy?? No kidding? And they're blind and deaf? Poor things! I loved the photos and have never seen a real armadillo. They look so cute in the pictures I've seen.

Tanna,
It was beautiful yesterday wasn't it, and today as well. I spent a couple of hours walking and then watering my plants. Tyler is such a pretty city and before long you will have roses blooming too.
Cute pictures of that little rascal.
Warm Hugs,
Jemma

Well, I learned a lot about armadillos! Had no idea! And what a divine temperature for this time of year.
Have a lovely day, dear Tanna.

What a surprise to see an armadillo!! So, nice that you got to enjoy sunshine and golfing; both are good for the soul.

if he is a mammal then he can have rabies....when we lived in texas we only saw the unfortunate ones that were road kill. I would have loved to see a moving one! I cannot believe how close you got!

My first encounter with an armadillo.....Jody and I 'hit' one early one morning on our way to Canton.....he jumped eye level with her in her van; he was looking at her/she at him. It was hysterical. (You were lucky he didn't jump in the golf bag!

I agree, leave we enough alone.
But how interesting!

I've never seen an armadillo in person, but God's creatures are just so amazing!

Smart move. I would have been suspicious myself. Nice that you were able to get your walking in for the day. I've been getting back to it lately. Son's wedding next month has pushed me to try to keep the pounds off ;-)

I think you were pretty lucky to see a live armadillo, as the ones we've seen were mostly roadkill, too. In MO we were told that they are gradually moving north and expected to arrive in NYC some day! And yes, we saw one in MO. Have seen then in FLA also.

My mind would wander too. It is better to be safe than sorry.
I am glad you got to golf and enjoyed 79 degree weather. We are getting dug out of the snow and more is expected this weekend. I am glad that the weatherman was off his mark this time and we did not get the 30 inches he predicted.
I am trying to exercise indoors a bit. I must admit I don't always feel like it though lol

What fun! Do armadillos live in any other state other than Texas? I never saw one before!

He must have been one hungry armadillo to be out there rooting around. Always fun to see something out of the ordinary. Best wishes, Tammy

So what if the golf wasn't great - you were outside, the sun was shinning and you had a opportunity to visit with a funny little critter. I remember the first time I saw one in LA (lower Alabama. But it was at night - so I don't blame you for wondering about his temperament. Blessings to you!

We have them here too, and every once in a while you get a rouge armadillo that is out after hours.
Hugs,
Meredith
