Basket Therapy - Day 1

So about a month ago, I made an emergency stop by Rose Path (my local yarn shop) just to sit for a short bit with my friends.  Sherri had a beautiful, giant crocheted bag she had made for holding her knitting projects.  I must have picked it up and admired it a dozen times while I was sitting there.

She had used two patterns to come up with her big bag.  One of the two is the Chunky Crocheted Basket Pattern by Elizabeth Tranthem (Ravelry).   This little jewel of a pattern became therapy for me.

It is FAST, EASY and you can FINISH in an evening sitting.  When everything else in life seemed to be going on and on and on without end, finishing one of these was a saving grace!!!  Thank you, Sherri!  On this first one, I used three yarns with a K hook.

Just sharing another of my "happies"... we found this gaudy little wind chime at Pier One.  I'm not the only one who loves it; the hummingbirds admire it daily (probably thinking it must be edible!!  LOL).

I went back later and added another row of single crochet to the top of this first basket.  None of mine match the pattern exactly... I was always only half-mindedly paying attention (making it a real winner, since I still loved them all), but I did end up adding this extra row on most all of them.  Ahhh... the value of a simple, repetitive task... good therapy, folks.  Good therapy.

"I can remember walking as a child.  It was not customary to say you were fatigued.  It was customary to complete the goal of the expedition."
~ Katharine Hepburn

"When you put your hand to the plow, you can't put it down until you get to the end of the row."

that is lovely!
I must ask...
Did you use 3 strands all at the same time??
Was it difficult holding them all??
Love the windchime♥️
Cheers!
Linda :o)

Nice job! And useful even! Have you heard of t-shirt yarn? My sister's into that and loving cutting up old t-shirts! (She's moving also, and I think needs some therapy....)

Tanna,
Love the basket! You always put that bug in my ear; that I ought to be doing some handiwork.
I would LOVE to make a little basket like that!!
I think it's adorable.

Thanks for adding the quotes at the end of your blog too... I really enjoyed them.

Smiles :)

It is beautiful Tanna!! I guess that it works up really fast using the three strands at once. I love your windchime too, it is nice to see one with some colour for a change. xx

they are sweet baskets! :) sure hoping things are better for you, now!

Yes. And it was not difficult to use the three together. Not as easy as one but not too difficult either. ;)
Thank you!

What a beautiful basket. Just yesterday I had the thought of knitting a basket and was searching through patterns. Since I can't read crochet patterns, knitting would be my way to go. Remember, there is always room for another basket somewhere in the home.....

A perfectly happy little product!! And, like the hummingbirds, I love the wind chime. One foot in front of the other--it usually works.

Best,
Bonnie

I had to laugh at what Susan said,
"Remember, there is always room for another basket somewhere in the home....."
Especially YOURS!

Everyone needs to collect these quick, instant gratification patterns to do now and then and in-between. I love doing them too. Love the little basket, and I love the "gaudy" wind chime too!

Those baskets are a great project. Love the extra stitching on the top! So pretty. I love that kind of work. Baking is a kind of therapy for me - I eat my creations and you get to wear yours ... well I guess I wear mine too if I eat too many (i.e. on the hips, and belly!) Love, Tricia

I am loving the basket, and loving those quotes at the end of your post as well. I needed to read them this morning. Just keep on plowing, Debbie, I said to myself.

(I am so out of it that I didn't realize you were BACK. Now I have to go back and read to see what I missed. )

Just so pretty, Tanna! And the wind chime is sweet , I think. It's always good to sit a spell and chat with friends. So glad you are back. You were sorely missed, dear one.

While my day-time life is over-full and my mind is racing with house-sale and house-purchase and the collapses and bidding of both, I spend my evenings working on needlepoint Christmas stockings for the twins - mindless, therapeutic!

........and I love the little baskets!

Love your therapy basket and the darling wind chime. I think it is the perfect cheerful whimsy to add and enjoy. I don't think it is gawdy in your setting.

"Happies" are important.

So, as a man thinketh so is he.

Have a great day.

Love the basket and the combination of yarns you used. Nothing like some crochet time to help keep you calm.
