The Learning Continues: One More Round of Painting

I've been practicing some more on Soon Y. Warren's method of painting crystal in watercolors.  The composition is Soon's and I am using her video instruction to help continue to guide me along.  I've taken three of her classes over the past couple of years; I LOVE her work and the way she brings her paintings to life.  Oh, I still have so much to learn and it continues to be exciting!  This one was still on the board after I had finished it... and something just didn't look right about the right lower quadrant to me... I don't know enough to recognize exactly what the problem was, but it wasn't right

While staring at it trying to figure out what didn't look right, I decided that if I cropped it, I was pretty happy...  Much like photos can sometimes be better when cropped.

I think I robbed too much light from the area that is purplish on the right lower part of the crystal... but, I'm still too inexperienced to know exactly where or how or what I was doing when I ran it in the ditch!  But, I do know I DID!  Guess I will just have to keep on keeping on trying to learn.

Here is the partial painting framed.  It was kind of sad to have to cut away all that work... good or bad... but, I did manage to make a hand painted card from the part I removed.  So, it wasn't a total waste.

Waves from our Little Lady!  She's growing like a weed!  Her Noni sure loves. loves. loves. getting those sweet, slobbery little sugars!   She enjoys balls like her cousin, Little Roo.  Makes me smile.

"We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love."  ~ Mother Teresa

Amen to that.  May your week find you doing whatever you do with great love.

blessings ~ tanna
PS The Unloved is still d.r.a.g.g.i.n.g. out... I have to force myself to do two rows... about every other day.  At this rate, I may never finish or get to a fun knit again!   Wish me knitting speed!!  ;)

Wow, Tanna, that is beautiful. I know what you mean about part of it driving you nuts. We even talked about this in class recently, if you don't like the whole picture, crop it, and if that doesn't work, use it as a card! I don't think I could have brought myself to crop it like you did though. Do you use resist on the crystal bowl? I actually love it framed. And that little cutie has the prettiest red hair, and her slippers are darling! So, are you ready to start a portrait class and paint these babies?

Look at your beautiful little princess! So precious and your painting is gorgeous. How do you do that? I love the way you cropped it - it is beautiful either way but the framed print is perfect! Missed you - so happy to be back :)

Amazing, as usual. I love a composition that is off center. It seems more alive to me instead of static and flat...it moves more. If that makes any sense! I'm sorry the unloved is still unloved....and unfinished...boo.
Cute baby!
Did you see the post that shows off my husband's custom window and door trim? He could help you with your old girls while you are helping with the hammering...oh, if only we were closer.
Love, d.

The painting is exquisite. So, so Beautiful. I was reading in the paper yesterday about a woman who paints with watercolors and she has a mirror in front of her space so she can look up and see her painting backwards, it helps her to identify what she feels is off and needs correcting, I thought that was pretty amazing.
Hugs to you my talented friend.

Oh my I admire your art knowledge, even to be stymied about that lower corner that looked fine to me, but what a great idea to crop! A painting! Wow I would never have thought of that but it looks great the way you framed it and no one would ever know, except, maybe the recipient of the painted card! Good for you, nothing in life should be wasted! And little Lady is indeed growing and such a pretty lady --- with personality and an adorable outfit and shoes (sox).

Wow , the painting looks very profesional, I think you are holding out. It is beautiful. That little lady is to dye for she is so precious. Hope the knitting picks up. Need a bit of that speed myself about five projects going and I never do that, maybe two... so have to get serious one of these days. So much knitting so little time. Hugs and Blessings, Trudy

Here's a wish for Knitting Speed for you!
Your artistry spills over from the knitting to the canvas - or is it the other way around? There's nothing I'd like more than to be able to express myself in art. What a gift!

You did see my scallops....I don't know what my excuse is for forgetting you sweet words....rain brain! I'll go with that. :-)

It is beautiful, Tanna. I love it. You are way too hard on yourself! I am very impressed!

Your sweet girl is growing. So darling.

Have a great holiday.

I like the crop. The off center aspect ratio is centered by the flower. Good call.

Hi You are a wonderful talent.. The water colour is fantastic and the 'little 'lady' ever so cute. Margaret

I thought your water color painting was beautiful as it was. I so admire you talent.

Awww your sweet little one is so adorable. Love that little wave, so cute. :)

Stop knitting stuff you don't like! I am serious. Frog it, give it away, throw it away...but stop. Your knitting should be things you enjoy, not things you "have to do". Too much of that already in life.

Life is too short to knit projects you don't like!

Hugs and blessings always dear friend.

It's a beautiful painting Tanna. I wish I were loose enough to paint with watercolors.
What a darling grandbaby! You are truly blessed.

Wow, the painting is remarkable and beautiful.

Question: Do you use any masking for all the tiny lines and details in the crystal? You must be a patient painter, and I always seem to just throw on the paint.

Also love the masterpiece at the bottom..your sweetie pie.

Love and Hugs

I think it's great! I've been painting for years and still don't think anything I do is frame worthy but I have fun trying. Your knit creations are marvelous. If I could do that I'd be thrilled.
Your little one is beautiful...

That baby girl is adorable I love babies in Black and white ..
I can see the little ones' face best without color interference.

Your painting is so lovely..you have incredible talent.

I was having my nails done at a salon and they had a crude pond/goldfish painting and I thought of you! Yours would be much nicer.

Amazing! And you have it framed already; that is impressive. Love the baby photo; she is growing SO fast, just like babies seem to do.

I scrolled down so slowly and stopped to stare at that picture. I can't even imagine where one would begin to paint something like that. The detail is amazing to me. I actually like the cropped version as well as the other. It's even just a bit more artistic that way. (Yes, I know that I know little to nothing about art, but I know what I like.)

Love that quote at the end by M.T.

I LOVE the way you cropped the painting. And how nice that it turned out to be a two-for - painting AND a card! ;-) And of course I'm a sucker for photos of the Little Lady. xoxo

breathtaking....i so admire your work (this is a person, though, who can't paint a wall!)

hope the unloved moves along....sometimes I have to put an unloved in time-out for awhile....and then magically the love (or at least maybe the sort-of-like comes back.

have a good weekend!

I thought this piece was lovely before you cropped it but I have to say it is really stunning in that frame.

I don't know how I missed this post!! I love seeing your painting framed and on the wall. While I love art and visit lots of exhibits and galleries, my eye is very untrained. I just tell myself "if you like it, it's good"!!
That Little Lady is growing very nicely!!

Best,
Bonnie

Your painting is lovely. Only you would notice if anything is off. Those of us with an untrained eye only see how magnificent it is. And truly, the fact that you painted it so beautifully and with fine attention, makes it absolutely perfect. :) Hugs, Tammy

Dear Tanna, The painting looks beautiful, but I am sure it hurt to cut away part of it. I am glad you found a usefulness for it though.
The little lady is a little doll!
You are very blessed to have these beautiful grandchildren be part of your life. This is a mutual blessings since they get so much love from you to remember in their lives.
Blessings dearest. Catherine xo
