Our Eagle

My Beloved, a.k.a. Pop Pop, was one of five nominees in his company for the Eagle Award.   It was a great honor to be nominated out of 1500 others; and, while Pop Pop was not named Eagle out of those last five, he is and always will be our Eagle.

At a point in life where many of his peers are growing complacent and resisting change, he embraces it and continues to stretch himself.   I am always amazed and impressed by his willingness and optimism in the face of difficult situations.  Times are hard.   Change is tough.  He continues to soar.  I love that.

I love that our family honors the qualities of hard work, integrity and perseverance.  I love that my Little Men are learning about that from their parents... and are learning the value of encouragement and affirmation and love.   I think the look on his face when this poster arrived in the mail was way better than any look he could have had had they announced him winner.

I hope he will always know, deep in his heart, that he is The Eagle:  The Winner to us.

The Entrelac shawl is coming along in spite of almost two whole tiers having to be taken out after an unfortunate and faulty turn.  Seems I lost myself between boarding and resuming knitting on the plane.  Bummer.  But, the entrelac is kind of like eating potato chips; it's hard to do just one, so starting back wasn't hard.

Travel to Evan's meeting last week was wicked:  getting up at 1:30 A.M. for one flight and then two days later getting up at 3:15 A.M. for the return flight.  I had myself some serious issues with TIRED.  Glad to be starting on a more normal week and glad to have The Unloved sitting in time out.  ;)  Thanks for all the wonderful advice.  I think just considering that I can freely rip it all out has been liberating!   We'll see what happens down the line.

"Anyone who has gumption knows what it is, and anyone who hasn't can never know what it is."
~ L. M. Montgomery

Hope you are all off to a wonderful week.

Oh I'm so touched with "Pop Pop". What a special grandpa.

The posters are so powerful and filled with love.

I really love the piece you are working on. I've been in my simple way doing a basket stitch on my latest dish cloth. I hope to graduate to something more difficult one of these days.

Have a great week. Love and Hugs

Aww your Hubby has to know how much he is loved and valued just by your loving words.

Kudos to your Hubby for such an honor to place so high over so many people.

The shawl is yummy! I did one scarf in Entrelac (knitted) and loved the finished results. I am looking forward to watching the progress of your lovely shawl.

Hugs and blessings being sent your way dear friend.

There is nothing like the love of family to make you feel proud. Love the poster and the thoughts behind it. Also loving the shawl, I can see why the unloved is back in the basket.
Hugs to you,

What a nice honor and such special family support. Precious poster. I know it will be displayed in a prominent place.

Hope you are now rested. That was a wicked schedule. I couldn't do it.

Your shawl is lovely and I am sure you will be finished with it quickly and I look forward to seeing it.

Bummer on having to rip out and give it another go...that's always so frustrating! Sounds like you took it well though. It's looking great. Love the colors.

Such a sweet message to Pop Pop and knowing that he is so adored by those who love him, is simply an irreplaceable honour.

Loving the beautiful entrelac shawl Tanna. It's such an intriguing pattern. I'm about half way through my shawl...I'm using the "shade loving shawl" pattern that you knitted a month or two ago. I couldn't find a cotton yarn in colours that I liked so I've used a bamboo silk. I've also joined a small knitting group that meets twice a month and although they're far more advanced than I, it's inspiring and helpful to knit with them.

I'll just bet this sweet award is much more meaningful to PopPop than any other one he could receive!

You shawl looks very complicated to knit, but it sure is beautiful! I love the colors and pattern.

Congratulations to your Eagle! I love that characteristic in a person, and I firmly believe that "gumption" like that (loved the Montgomery quote) is cultivated in and by families.

The shawl is lovely.
I have been busy for the past few days. I need to look back and make sure I didn't miss an update on the Unloved.

Still unloved?

Before Roo's nap today we were reading the zoo lift-a-flap book. When he lifted the eagle flap I told him what it was, and he said, "Pop Pop." =) You and Pop Pop are a strong match - equally paired in your ability to soar. Love you both beyond measure! xoxo

Tanna- what a wonderful tribute to your husband-- he is so blessed to have a family who appreciates him for the person he is-- a wonderful husband, Father, Grandpa.

Your shawl is exceptional-- the colors are stunning. Oh I can't believe you had to rip so much out-/ that's always so disheartening to me:(. I'm really glad you didn't give up on it-- it's stunning!
