Home Again. Home Again. Jiggity Jig.

We swooped across the south with the car thermometer reading 104.  Delicate mimosa blossoms bordered much of  the roadway home.  And, finally, the dry, brown, heat stressed look of Texas... Even with the heat and the drought, I was glad to roll into our home state.  [As a Texan, I do have to confess there is something oddly satisfying about being able to pass through six states in a day's drive.  We couldn't do that if we were heading west from our house; we'd still be trying to get out of our own state.]

I had been gone for 27 days and really just wanted to make this last day's drive, unpack and relax.  But, the only thing worse than coming home to your air conditioner not working when it is 104 is walking in the door and it is still working like a horse... and the drain is clogged... and the switch-off in the pan is not working...

Soggy sheetrock crashed down on the table, chairs and floor.  The finish on the table may not recover (Kim, where are you??).  And, the hardwood floor has been soaking with soggy sheetrock, too.  Not sure how long it has been this way, but the splatters from where it fell are dried.  There was a steady drip still falling onto the table and the sheetrock on the floor.  If you have a drain in an attic unit POUR BLEACH THROUGH IT TODAY!!  Save yourself from this mess!

I'm glad we got home today.

I did find it interesting that the original wallpaper is the same color as I have it painted.  Pretty cool.  Guess we'll be having some sheetrocking and painting around the Bungalow as soon as everything dries out good.

Anyway, the journey is over.

Miles traveled:             2233.8 mi.
Gas:                                 $384.67
Hotels en route:               $190.76

Being the recipient of this look:

And, here for this moment:

PRICELESS!!!

Go check those drains now!  Blessings ~ tanna

Oh, Oh, Oh ... but as I read about and saw the disaster I was thinking in the back of my mind, Tanna is going to say it is worth every penny to be with those precious grandchildren at such a time as you were with them.

But, I do hope you rest, dry out, and that repairs go better than you imagine they might.

Priceless moments.
But what a shock to find at home. We don't have air conditioning (not needed), but what a mess that looks like! Poor dears, I hope it gets all fixed soon.

Welcome Home! Clearly the priceless scenes you left behind were a far cry better than the scene that awaited you.

What a mess!!

(And they really are priceless and adorable.)

Been there, done that. I'm a faithful bleach-pourer-in-the-tube person. I still don't understand why they have to put those things in the attic. It ruined our ceilings and carpets and doorframes one time, too.

But when I see the smiles and sweetness of your little grandsons, somehow it was still worth the trip!

Well there's a nice welcome home to you! I love how you sound so positive through this entire post. Like I tell my kids, attitude is everything.

I especially like how you digressed with the comment on the old wallpaper color. Spoken like a true artist!!

Welcome home, Debbie

I loved every single minute of our days together. There is no thank you grand enough to express my gratitude for your being here. I hate that you returned home to such a mess. I hope the repair goes smoothly - as smoothly as those kind of things can go. I love you and miss you. Hugs from me and the two little men. XOXOXOXO

Oh man...so sorry you had such a mess to face upon your arrival home. Bummer! I've never even heard of a drain pan in the attic, but since our houses are similiar in age, I need to do some checking...Good luck with the clean up. I have to say, even though the ceiling was coming down, the beauty of the room still showed through!
Best,
Susan

Dear Tanna, I am glad that you arrived home safe and sound. I also am sorry for the ceiling and the table. The chandelier is just beautiful and would feel terrible if that the leak in the ceiling happened by that beautiful fixture! Dear Tanna ~ just take your time and everything will come together. God Bless and I look so forward to your visits, Catherine

What a shame! I do hope you can find someone to refinish the top of that beautiful table. The pictures of your two little guys are priceless :-). As we say, they are memories in the making. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

the minute I read you'd been gone 27 days I wondered,

"What would happen if my husband and I were gone 27 days?"

Well, you've given me one scenario!

How many nights in hotels that only totalled $190? Which ones? Hampton Inns aren't even economical any longer. That's what we'd stay in w/ the boys when they were little. One room, two beds, Mom & Dad each taking a child. It was sweet til I'd get kicked in the middle of the night!

I will say, so sorry your drain pan switch failed!!! As you know hubby does this hvac stuff for a living....well on our home we built in 2004....he forgot (yes forgot) to put said switch on one of our units....we had the same problem you had but discovered it before the ceiling fell. We have a seams that need to be repaired.....ha! (he was very mad at himself for the oversight)

It looks as though you and Amanda had so much fun dressing up the little one.....so cute! he will get you for this someday! ha
