Clearing Up Any Misconceptions...

All of your kind and generous comments lead me to know that some of you are giving me artistic credit where none is due.  Most of my paintings are based on projected views of photos that I have traced the outline onto watercolor paper to then paint.  I am not an artist.  One day, I may decide to learn to draw.  But for now, I am content to be in my second childhood with a new box of crayons in the form of watercolors.  A couple of the flower paintings I drew... nothing too complicated.   I am amazed at the wonderful, gracious, kind treatment from my blog friends.  I cherish each and every wonderful comment.  I just don't want to take credit where credit is not due.  I hope you will still join me in the adventures of this granny learning to "color" with watercolor.

Thank you again and again.

Blessings ~ Tanna

Why, you are too an artist! You're a blogger, aren't you?

Sorry, but 'learning to color with watercolors' has every bit of artist required than if you started from scratch and drew the outline freehand. Just because you 'cheat' a little in getting the basics down, makes your talent no less impressive. :)

I think you are an artist. Oh my! I hate to think about what my watercolor would look like. Yours is just beautiful.

You didn't mislead me, you are an artist!
There is no mistake... you have a gift.

You are way too modest! I could not do with watercolors what you are doing. You are an artist, I am not. I'm very much enjoying your artistic journey!

Give yourself much credit. I know what you mean from my tole painting classes years ago, But you are doing far more than coloring in the lines, my friend...water color is a special art (no pun intended) that takes skill to get the shading just so and to water the colors just right! I am impressed!!

Haha...you are so an artist! The colors and technique you use aren't something just anyone could whip up. Sunflowers are just about my favorite thing in the world. Your picture is lovely. Keep painting! ~Ann

Sweet Tanna..I've Been Painting A Bit Over Eight Years Now..AND STILL CAN'T DO WATERCOLOR! So You Most Definitely Have Artistic Talent My Friend! Anyone Who Masters Watercolor Has My Vote! :)) Thanks So Much For Your Sweet Comment On My Video Attempt. I Was A Wreck Doin' That Thing! I'd Much Rather Be Behind The Easel Than In Front Of A Camera. Hugs To You Dear Lady, Terri

I think your work is beautiful, Tanna. I never could get watercoloring to look like anything. And I never could figure out what I was doing wrong. I applaud your efforts...looks fantastic!

Tanna, one of my most gifted watercolor artist friends does exactly what you do (projections, tracings) and paints from there. She is also apologetic, insisting she's not an artist because she "can't draw."

I disagree with you both. I have a painting she gave me and I treasure it. It's gorgeous. She's an artist. So are you. Who cares how you get this on paper? It's beautiful.

Give yourself credit. I love this.

Dear Tanna ~ This is the way most artists get there subjects. The only problem is if you use a photo that is copyright.

Many of my watercolors are transferred from photographs I have taken.

It does take an artist eye to add the watercolor, and you are so good at that.!!

Sweet of you to tell us this, but we know an artist when we see one...and you are one!!

Honey you really under estimate your gift! You are an artist and a very good one at that. I think water colors are very hard to do and these paintings here that you have shown us are beautiful to say the least.
So practice saying I am a Artist and a very good one
Love ya

i just stumbled upon your blog

just because you didn't come up with the original outline doesn't mean you aren't an artist! :) the painting is hard work, too!

We're all hoping you have a little 'giveway' of one of your small water colors. :D But I still think you have a lot of talent. :D

Tanna you ARE an artist, as your watercolor outline, shading and color depth takes talent! Even with a traced image I would not be able to produce a final image such as yours. It's beautiful!

I agree with the others. Even though you are working with traced images you are still putting your artistic abilities to work with all of the shading and blending and everything else. These are just lovely!

Hi Tanna, yes indeed, if you can take watercolors and turn them into something beautiful and recognizable, then you are truly talented and can be called an artist. I've attempted watercolor and just can't seem to work well with it. Even if I drew a picture and then added color, it would never, ever look like what you have been able to create. Keep doing what you are doing. :) Tammy

Take it from one who couldn't even make those coloring books where one just used water on the brush to "color" with work, you are an artist. Enjoy the kudos--you deserve them.

Best,
Bonnie

Your sunflower painting is very pretty. I signed up to be your newest follower and am giving away one copy of a book about contentment on my blog, if you care to visit.

I agree with the others. It takes an artist's eye to be able to use watercolors to create such incredible paintings. The sunflower is beautiful! Look at the different depths you've included.

Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers. Sarah and I are trying our hand at gardening and just planted sunflower seeds in addition to some vegetables. We'll see if they turn out. But as Sarah said, "It's God who created these seeds. So He can make them grow."

You are far too modest....you are a very gifted artist...tracing or not!
I love water colors...the kind you dip the brush in the water and the color is on the book...lol

Well, this sounds like a really fun hobby and it really is so beautiful! You are an artist! :D

Oh I disagree - you are an artist because you deal with shades and values, etc. and you do it great!

Oh so humble...I love your kind spirit and am so thankful to know you. Now, please know that those of us that truly got left out when God sprinkled the artistic dust will call you an artist if you like it or not. I agree with Jill, everything you touch seems to have an art to it. Very cool.

I beg to differ...you are an artist and what a talent. I keep thinking I will learn something new in this "second half" of life...and if I am blessed to have a finished product like yours I will be thrilled.

I do want you house...my dream house for my "second half" of life!

Um, you know how I feel about this. One definition I found of art: "the creation of beautiful or significant things." Another: "the products of human creativity." You have produced art. You are an artist. Enough said. =) Love you!
