Roses... and Roses... and Roses...

A few weeks ago, I came across a photograph on Empty Nest Revolution.  California Girl had done a post on Spirals and used a photo by her husband, professional photographer Cole Scott.  His beautiful rose became an inspiration piece for my study of watercolor.

I did two versions and neither one even begins to portray the beauty of his photograph.  I started out on a quest for the soft, delicate coral he had so beautifully captured.  But, for the life of me, I could not stop myself from playing with the deep, garish colors I ended up with.  It was a great lesson in creating some shape... and not.  ;)  Rolling the edges... sometimes the wrong direction...

My versions have some Pop Art, odd and harsh colors and shapes... but, I like them okay...  because they are a part of my progression to an unknown place... I find that exciting.  And, I learned some things.

After starting these, I found Wanda's Art Blog and decided to play along on the challenge of March to paint flowers!  Thank you, Wanda!!  Thank you, California Girl and Cole!

Check out http://archive.colescottphoto.com/!!  Incredible photography!

My blog friend, Kim at Savvy Southern Style hosts a Wow Us Wednesday party at her place.  She was kind enough to expand the party for those of us who are less enthusiastic about getting around to decorating!  Come join us.  She is open to recipes, knitting,  crafts, decorating or anything you would like to share... and she is quite kind.  =)

Aren't Blog Buddies the best!
This is really beautiful. I like that you enlarged it so we see just the pedals.
Great colors!

Tanna, before long you will be in a gallery and I can say I knew her when. This is spectacular!

I think it's beautiful, But I can imagine how difficult those swirls would be. It's not as easy as it looks, isn't that some rule? I'm so glad I can look over your shoulder in your art journey!

You are an extremely talented painter. It must be exciting to see your picture become something beautiful and vibrant. I've never had that experience. Carry on!

Will we be seeing your art on exhibit at the show where we went to see Patrice's? I think you should enter some of your work for that. I tell you what, for only having started this watercolor painting a couple of months ago, you sure are amazing at it. Seriously. But the truth is, I knew you would be. I can't ever remember a time I watched you attempt something that it didn't come out great. I hope that legacy is passed on to LM and Baby Boy.

Oh my goodness..If this is playing along... You are the conductor of the Orchestra.

I've been so tied up with my daughter being in the hospital with a kidney stone, I haven't had time to post your beautiful rose on my blog...

I will get that done this evening!

This is extraordinary work. Love it, love it, love it.

Good job, Tanna! I love the swirls on your rose. It's neat how an ordinary object observed from a different or close angle can make itself look totally different - like a pinwheel or something here. You had a wonderful inspiration!

I love your roses! So often creative projects take on a life of their own, and that's what your roses did. As far as curling in the wrong direction--nature isn't perfect! Gorgeous!

Susan

Hi Tanna! My husband and I just saw the post and we love it. He says to tell you he "loves the edging on the first two & the color on the third". I like them all. I used to love to paint roses and I know how hard they can be. You did an excellent job.

Send everyone to www.colescottphotography.com
