Just Sit There and Look Pretty

I have neither the lens nor the skill to do this site justice in a photograph.  Walking in darkness at least five mornings a week, I top the hill on Bois D'Arc... and, just over the crest of my favorite historic shopping strip... I catch sight of the glowing steeple of First Presbyterian Church.  It just sits there and looks pretty...

The steeple rests atop this magnificent old structure, but I hardly ever even notice her... so enamored I am with gazing at the beacon which is her peak.

It is a well-tended landmark... a point of inspiration to at least one of us who walks in darkness.

This shot is REALLY poor... but, I love the cross on the top and I had the very good fortune of crossing paths with a real photographer not too long after I attempted these shots. I'll be signing up for one of his classes come spring.  I can't wait!  Maybe in a year or so, I'll be able to get the shots that convey a fraction more of the beauty I am blessed to enjoy.

I am linking here to Debi's Emma Tree blog, where she is doing a Just Sit There and Look Pretty post.  She is a wonderful writer and artist, please stop by and say, "hi," if you have a chance.

What a beautiful way to start a morning. The whole church is beautiful but the steeple, bathed in light and reaching for the heavens, is breathtaking.

Best,
Bonnie

It is a GORGEOUS church. And this is the first year in a while I haven't seen hawks guarding the neighborhood from their perch on the cross. That always made me so happy to see them there - hope they'll be back. That photographer you talked to & about can tell you more. He is the neighborhood wildlife expert. :)

Love this! I see the steeple from the backside - part of my view from the couch. Not too bad.

WOW that is absolutely GORGEOUS and what a beautiful sight to see on your morning walks! I'm ready for some coolness to get here again so I can take my walks back outside.

I wish I could walk with you. That church is beautiful. I have noticed that the old Presbyterian churches, especially, were built with so much beauty.

Wow! That really is spectacular, isn't it? I'm loving all of your blue hour shots. I was just thinking about how beautiful a shot like this would be of one of the churches in Rome or Florence. =) You may need to do a whole series of blue hours. And you may need a new fancy lens to help you get just the shot you need. Hmmmm....

It is not lost on me that as this glowing beacon called up your desire to photograph it better, you then meet a photographer that will help you do just that.

Pretty can also be magical! A truly lovely post. I felt I was enjoying your walk with you. Thank you.

I love these shots, I could almost feel the quiet that must have been when you took them. Oh to have a new lens....feel your pain.

You get up even earlier than I do and I get up early. I would love to see this wonderful church with all the light shining from it every morning.

Tanna, how many times have I driven past that church in the daytime, but never looked up at it at night. It's just breathtaking with that cross up there.

Great post, girl. A photography class - great! I took some classes way back when I was in school 30+ years ago. I'm afraid cameras have changed alot since then!
