For the love of color...

I'll admit it... I love color.

Color is one of the main things that attracts me to beautiful yarns... and the creations they become.

Then, of course, there is the design element, too... Shape and form...

The same things I love in watercolor.... or gardens... or home décor...  or food (plus taste, of course)...

And, we can't forget texture...

These are some luscious wools that were sitting in my stash.  The brightest green is Madelinetosh Light, leftover from my Sweet Dreams shawl; and, hands down, it feels the most wonderful sliding through my fingers, though I love them all.

I'm practicing Modified African Violet Pentagons with these little discs.  Crochet is NOT my usual territory but I'm giving it a try (yes, Vicki, I am).  They've gotten better as I've gone along.  However, I still have trouble trying to figure out where to start and how to count these stitches!  LOL!  Forever the Student.   Forever on the learning curve.

I am convinced it is good to strain your brain and this is certainly filling that bill.

And...  it is helping to avoid The Unloved (knitting project that is sulking in its basket for lack of attention).  {sigh}

"It is the artist's job to create sunshine when there is none."
~ Romain Rolland

I hope you are out there creating your own sunshine... in whatever form you enjoy!!

p.s. Let me know any thoughts on the color combos.

I think African Flowers can be a bit fiddly with all the joining at the end of a row. I have had a lot of trouble trying to make it look nice and smooth. Yours look wonderful and the colors are magnificent.

Well, don't those look like fun! Do you sew them together in the end? I just checked out your Unloved project. It sure is a pretty color! It looks like the book it's from is called Endless Knits? Could that be the problem...........

All those little flowers are bound to turn into something very pretty!
I love your description of yourself as an eternal student- it's a good way to be!

Oh please forgive me for starting to giggle the instant I read the part about the unloved.

I have decided in my head that I'll actually be disappointed if it ever gets finished. It's just so Debbie of you to leave it half done.

love the colors.....love the design......(i can't get beyond granny squares with crochet..these are lovely!)---ah, what we will resort to, to avoid the unloved!!!

I'm so in love with color too. I crocheted a huge octagon granny afghan in various colors for my bed. You color choice for these flowers is perfect. Can't wait to see what you make with them!

At the rate you're going, you'll be teaching crochet in no time at all :-) That of course means the "unloved" will have to be attended to before it starts to haunt you. I'll bid you a good day on that happy note. Blessings...Mary

Poor little unloved project - she's actually exquisite and can't help it she's not going to be your favorite: a shawl! LOL! I would offer to finish it for you if I weren't still a beginner!

I love the colorful African flowers and have no doubt that you will excel at crochet as beautifully as you have knitting!

Blessings,

BEAUTIFUL COLORS! I am VERY attracted to bright colors (NEED bright colors) as well...I just saw some pottery at a Farmer's Market with these colors...and LONGED for it!
What will you do with these discs? I once had a jumper (at about 6 years) made out of crocheted disks (it had a liner.) It was beautiful. Now, I must go to my Mom's house and look for a picture of it. :)

I couldn't wait to tell you that you are sooooooo thoughtful! Thank You!

Now for my opinion about colors, well, you have such fine taste. It would be telling Monet how to paint!
Not even going to go there. But do show us the finished product.

I do believe I like the ones with the dark border and the green petals the best, but all of them are lovely and all of them together are amazing....I'm sure they want to be something...table runner?
I love learning new things, too....like how to build a porch this week!
Crochet is on my list because I want to make a colorful granny square blanky....
Love, d.

Dear Tanna, These African flowers remind me of the blankets my grandmother would crochet. They are beautiful and not seen as much anymore.
She taught me how to crochet and it is very relaxing and the time passes quickly. Stick with it Tanna it is much easier than you think and once you get the hang of it, you will love it.
I do love color too. It makes you happy. Blessings dear friend and hugs. Catherine xo

Oh yes, I love the colour combinations, I love colour too and that's what attracts me to fabric. I walk through a fabric store and honestly, I want every colour that I see! I especially love the ones that are so soft to the touch!
Good for you for straining your brain, I need to find something that will do that for me.
Have a good weekend!

If ever anyone created sunshine, it is you sweet friend. Your blog is always so lovely and inspiring! :)

I love, love, love that you are hooking! Awesome. The colors are mouth watering, too.

You make me smile how you can put your hand to anything and do it so very well...you are talented in so many ways..

As for the knitting project that you don't want to knit on anymore...frog that puppy right now! Life is too short to knit something you don't love!

Blessings to you always my sweet friend. :)

You have a such a knack for putting colors together!! I love your crocheting.

The colors of the yarn against the wood is beautiful!

karen said...

Well it looks like your territory! Lovely colors and the way you pair them up, gorgeous. That is one thing crochet has over knitting the color possibilities in a circular fashion.

podso said...

I'm totally smiling with all this richness of color! And to see you crocheting! Yes counting is hard but then again crocheting is so forgiving! I find knitting hard if you lose a stitch; I rarely find it again. Anyway, these are sweet, what are you going to do with them?

Betty@SouthernGrace said...

I love color too. I'm sure whatever you make will be beautiful!

I love the colour combo....they all just go so well together!! I recently put a pinky red together with an orange in a bag that I'm crocheting and it went really well.....I think!! I love to use all colours and the brighter the better!! Well done on picking up your hook again. It's definitely something that you should do more! The African flowers are rather fiddly, though, but so worth it!! Thanks for visiting me and for leaving your kind comments! Joan

The scarf you made in the prior post is gorgeous--and I love it on the back of your couch as it looks like it was made exactly for that purpose!
