Garden of an Artist - Number 2 on the Behind the Garden Gates Tour

The Azalea Belles welcome visitors throughout the Azalea Trails and special events of spring. It was so cold! Brrrr... This in garden number two on the tour...

There is something decidedly attractive about paths leading to parts unknown...

This is the first view stepping through the gate to this backyard...

The homeowner is an artist... her creativity is reflected all throughout this garden...

In this photo, the dragonfly is difficult to see ... He is quite fetching. Other little critters are nested among the plants...

Color and whimsy abound...

This is not the first time for these gardeners to be on tour...

A place for everything! Cooking, eating, relaxing... fun!

Mary Engelbright (sp?) eat your heart out...

Obelisks and angels...

And that concludes today's garden tour... =)

Quote for the day...

Just noticed the quote for the day by Elain Heffner:

The art of mothering is to teach the art of living to children.

I love that! But, I think it might really work out the other way... =)

Chilton Oaks

We saw the front of Chilton Oaks on a previous post... Today we will venture into the back yard thanks to the "Behind The Garden Gate" tour that was presented this past weekend. Chilton Oaks, a Greek Revival style home built in 1938, was accepted into the Smithsonian Institution's Archives of American Gardens in 2004.

Note the size of the two people next to the azaleas in the front yard... Give you an idea of the scale??

Gateway into the back yard...

Cherubs and ivy...

A very formal area... boxwoods and belles...

Venetian marble statue of Aphrodite with fish and lily pond...

A little early for this bed of tulips...

Oh, how I want this horse... actually, two horses... there are two flanking the entry to this area and they are so beautiful and unique! I've seen lions, dogs of all variety, monkeys... none of these... they look very old. I know it is wrong to covet... but, I do.

One of the other outdoor "rooms"... very serene and not as formal...

This was outside another area with a small house (possibly a guesthouse).

Cute little birdhouse sitting in the crape myrtle's arms...

I love the basket weave design in the brick wall...

This was another area...

On the way out of the gardens...

Until the next one...

More from a morning walk...

I am excited! I am about to be off on a "Behind the Garden Gates" tour! Not this gate...

But, this one's gate...

This is the front entry...

This little cutie sits right next door... She could use some TLC on the gardening department... but, man, what potential (I am the Queen of Potential! lol)

I will be back with lots more shots...

Look at all those buds just waiting to pop!

Dogwoods...

Another shot of tulips... like the little red one amongst the pinks...

And, even the lone yucca is blooming!

The rains have battered some of the blossoms to the ground... they are still beautiful.

The home's trim matches the brilliant Japanese Maples so perfectly...

Now this hedge walls a garden that I am going to get to see today!

Another view...

And this is the gate...

You will see these guys again in late summer... so, sad that they have been pruned.

Can you say, Candycane?

And, I'm off for the day! 38 degrees! BRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr

See you later with some behind the gate photos... =)
