Windshield or Bug?
As I think about our last week, I keep hearing a line from one of my favorite Mary Chapin-Carpenter songs: Sometimes you're the windshield; sometimes you're the bug. We all have those kind of weeks... the ones where we are the BUGS.
This was my beautiful bouquet the very next morning after I received it... Hydrangea -- unrevivable (yes, a made up word). Roses, too. Really sad. Their stems were in the very NECK of the vase. Not too happy with the florist.
Then, there was this. We had a RAT problem. Not mice. Big giant rats. In our attic. Fortunately, they did not seem to be interested in the living areas of our home, but they did like the attic. My Beloved had trapped several, but we were losing the battle. In comes Terminix. This photo is about a third of the nice, white, fluffy insulation they removed to treat and plug all entries.
This is the nasty looking mess of insulation they used to replace ours (all over the floored storage area). I'm not really happy with them or the florist. The Terminix supervisor is coming later today to "clean up" some of the mess and "check" it. I just hope they "extruded" all the rats in a more satisfactory way than they re-insulated our attic. The verdict is still out.
Oh, and there are the two sprinkler heads they broke because they ran the truck off the drive. Arrrrgggghhhhh. And, this ordeal lasted over the course of three days from 9AM-7PM. Give me patience, oh, Lord.
Add that to one of The Old Girls (our rental properties) catching fire (in the refrigerator) after a lightening storm. Good news is that no one was hurt and the fire was contained to the freezer. Oncor is still working on the service to the apartment.
And then, there was my Beloved having a fender bender. Again, blessed that no one was hurt. His Tahoe... another matter. Well, it was a bug kind of week.
My therapy consisted of crazy random crochet... with future plans of a yarn bombing. ;)
That week's over and we're movin' on!! I hope each of you (and we) are the windshields this week!!
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Oh dear! I can only offer help re your hydrangea. Hydrangeas to not take up water through their stems. They drink it through the flowers. You can keep them going for quite some time by misting the flower heads with water or dunking the flower heads in water. I don't know why florists don't share that information. I hope the rest of the week will go better!!
Best,
Bonnie
P.S. Meant to say I'm glad that your beloved wasn't injured!!

I have you in my prayers sweet friend....((hugs)). What a horrible ordeal. Hang in there, the sun is gonna shine on you I just know it will. Love what you are working on for the yarn bombing. :) Blessings to you always sweet friend. :)
Oh no! You had a terrible week for sure. There is nothing more frustrating than workers who make or leave a giant mess - and don't actually finish what they started. Hopefully they removed the unwanted guests for good. I get upset with florists when this happens too - hope they will send you a new one - I would ask! A fire too! Yuck. Always loved Mary Chapin-Carpenter's songs - and that's a good one!
Sometimes it's hard to feel thankful when you've had a week like that, and why is it that such "events" always seem to come together. I've heard groups of threes but it seems you had more than that. I certainly hope those guys come and tidy up your attic and fix the sprinklers. I'm, just glad those big bags weren't filled with the subjects that you were hunting. Here's to better weeks! (And a fire in a freezer seems oxymoronish--there's a new word too!
Here's hoping this week is a much better and bug-free one!
This is all only a test. I do believe you have a very strong windshield. Hang in there. But, such a week or (3) days. Himmel.
Gracious, you did have a doozie of a week! But, I'm loving your crochet! 😉!
OH my goodness!
That florist needs to send you a new bouquet...ASAP! That is nasty!
The Rats...no idea about that, but what an ordeal that must have been.
The car...glad no one was hurt...and the fire! Geesh!
They say things come in 3's...well,yours came in 4's...hope the rest of your week is better!
Loving all the colours in your crochet!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Oh my . . . I would have been GONE . . .
I am not even able to say the word . . .
Dreadful!
I would FOR SURE be on the line with the florist!
Not right . . .
I do hope you are having a "windshield "week!
That is a horrible very bad week!!! Hope it gets better.
Goodness! I hope it's all smooth sailing from here on out!
I am so very sorry! What a week you've had. If anyone deserves some windshield weeks now, it is you and your husband. The Philippians verse is a favorite of mine and some of the best advice I know.
This makes the 2 mice we caught after moving in seem like a piece of cake. I think you should receive another bouquet from the florist, a free one.
I'll say, put that week behind you adn start a new one which will be a lot better without 'bugs'!!!
goodness, you did have a rotten week, but I bet next week will be rat-free, fire-free and hopefully full of goodness. We had a mouse problem in this house in the attic and we had to call in the "big guys" to figure out how they were getting in. They tell their mouse buddies....sadly by leaving a scent trail. Little buggers.
On a scale of one to ten..that's pretty up there :(
I was given a florists bouquet also..and the same thing happened.I am a gardener..he is a well established florist..must be 45 yrs plus here..my hydrangea, same thing..never happened w/ a florists one..the Agapanthus lasted maybe 2 days..my daughter had bought them for me..and I felt bad for her..would never tell her..but I know he is $$$:(The carnations..are still thriving of course..
Now the rats..would freak me out Tanna..looks like you went the whole 9 yards to never see one again. That is reassuring..and they should come and clean up and assure you that the job is well done..w/ Facebook etc..they should really try and protect a good reputation..I know here..if something is off..FB knows it and everyone is reading it.
The Tahoe..the fire..wow..luckily there is always craft therapy..and you are ace at that.
This week will certainly be better..love the squares..the chaise longue and pilllow..
P.S. I find some florists(not Linda's talented daughter..) are stuck in the past..and the arrangements just look old..and out of date..others..knock your socks off w/ parrot tulips..etc..
What a week! Sorry, for all the episodes. You have a great attitude with all the week's problems. Rats are definitely upsetting.
You can completely submerse the hydrangea and it will revive overnight, however, you should not have that happen from a florist.
I love your crochet squares that are so colorful. Very pretty and you do such nice work. I know if I lived near you I could pick it up again, however, I never get through with all the ideas I have. I give out of energy.
Glad your husband was not hurt. Close friends of mine are praying their SIL will not lose his arm among many other problems from a head on collision with a tractor trailer.
my goodness what a trying week you have had...hope this week is much better! love that elephant pillow and your yarn colors!
Wow! All I can say is that your week MUST be going to get better from this point, for it doesn't seem like it could get any worse! :-(( I wouldn't stay in my house ONE SECOND after finding out there was a rat of any size in it. Shudder. And I do hope your week goes better. :-)
We had a rat problem in our first old house. We didn't realize they were living in the crawl space under the house until I ran into one in our bathroom and watched him go behind the tub and disappear. They ate a lot of poison but it just seemed like it was a supplement to their diet. When my neighbor moved in next door with about 10 cats, we never saw another rat. Those were the good old days! Ha! Hope you have a much better day! Hugs!
It's no fun when it's one's time to be a bug. That would be me this week too. Ah well, in the grand scheme of things I tell myself that my bad days are just 'blips' in the week. I tell myself, but I don't always get it!
That kind of week really tries your patience. So glad that you are all okay and no one has been hurt. Hang in there.
Dear Tanna, I am so sorry your beautiful Valentine's bouquet didn't last but one day. It's one of the reasons I don't want flowers for Valentine's Day anymore. Florists just rip people off. It's sickening.
As far as your attic, I just wanted to tell you when we built our previous home, we had foam insulation installed in our attic. It was pretty expensive, but the cost was well worth it. Fortunately, we never had a critter problem and on top of that, the temperature in our attic was always about 10 degrees warmer or colder (depending on the season) than our living area. So, it was wonderful for storage - no problems with melted candles or things like that.
Just thought I'd pass that on to you. Not sure what your monetary situation is, but if you are planning to stay in your home, it would be worth it to look into it.
The granny squares are so beautiful..
I like the way you take your revenge out...they are really pretty squares.
Can we see the finished product?
Hope things are going better, no rats, car repaired, sprinkler heads back on, freezer fire, well what can I say... fixed or a new one.
Yup, windshield or bug kind of week.
Perfect verse!
WOW.....that was certainly the week that WAS. Luckily....past tense. You did get some lovely granny squares out of the whole ordeal!
you'll love this...yesterday evening, alex walks into the kitchen with a quote that he has written on a strip of manilla paper and taped to his chest. it read, "think only happy and posedev thots." perfect complement to your scripture. =) here's to hoping it's a windshield week next week! =) xoxoxo love you!!
Oh dear, Tanna! What a trying week you had. I hope the weekend is the start of something better. You did manage some cheerful crochet under the circumstances. Glad you had that at least.
What a week! I most likely would have been bugging the florist over that mess up with the flowers. They should know better. And Terminix, well I hope they clean up their mess and got rid of the pesky rats. Glad your hubby is ok! Hope your weekend is going good!
Tanna!!!
So happy to reconnect. I think we are both returning to blogging about the same time! I just ran out of things to say, but with my upcoming move, hopefully I'll have a wealth of subjects to share! Your attic looks like my "new" house right now. Sometimes it seems to be two steps back for each one forward, doesn't it! SO glad you're back blogging!
Best,
Susan

Oh my --you had a terrible week, but all in all it came out well in the end and could have been worse. Now for only good things to happen ahead!
