Hooked: A Crochet Love

This fascination started with an old afghan I couldn't resist in Canton at the Trades Days, grew with this beautiful gift from the LM & Co., and blossomed with this Mixed Stitch Stripey Blanket Crochet-a-Long by Julie Harrison.

My friend, Laura, loved it, too, and, the next thing I knew we had whipped each other into a frenzy to begin!  We each walked out with a bag FULL of happy colors... then, I took mine back the next day and traded them in for these... they are more quiet, more somber, probably more me.  I want the bright, shiny, happy... but, I am more serious... less sparkly.  Maybe one day...

I am very much enjoying the crochet... learning new stitches... changing colors... my knitting needles have been abandoned (only for the moment).  The one thing I really hope to learn before this project is through is how and where to START and END each row.  Keeping a straight edge is a constant battle for me.  I will persevere.

Things have been hectic around here... The Old Girls DO NOT like extremes of temperature... which means I DO NOT like extremes of temperature!  ;)  I am sure enjoying this warm front and the calm that is following it!!  Hope each of you are all safe and warm.

"The sharing of joy, whether physical, emotional, psychic or intellectual, forms a basis for understanding much of what is not shared between them, and lessens the threat of their difference."
~ Audre Lord

It is good to have peeps to share your joy.  Roo asked me while they were here last month, "What's that (peeps), Noni?"  He was insatiably curious about every new phrase; he talks endlessly now.  I told him peeps were your people... the ones you could count on, the ones you celebrate with and cry with... and most of all, love... the ones who share your life.

Consider me your peep as you are mine!! Love, absolutely love your colors. More subdued but so darn rich and friendly. Have attempted crochet, I know about the uneven edges, and just have not found a love for it.

I'm so used to seeing your knitting, I was a little surprised to see the crochet thread...Lovely.

My hands stiffened up after I stopped knitting my Christmas dish cloths, so yesterday I bought spring colors and will start knitting again. Really helps my hands. So it a win- win.

Little Roo is perceptive, questions, processing, thinking --- and you are crocheting--- YEA! the colors are just beautiful! Even after all these years of crocheting, the turns are still a bit of a challenge. Obviously you have more than just a simple pattern going on there. Have a lovely weekend!

I would be honoured to have you as one of my peeps and would be equally honoured to be one of yours!
Your crochet is divine!! I love the colours and all the different stitches, it really is beautiful. I probably say that a lot, but I really really mean it!! I look forward to seeing your progress and hope that you are enjoying making it as much as I have enjoyed looking at it. xx

To me crochet and knit are equal , as I often crochet edges on my knitting. Your colors are glorious.

I love being part of the knit blog community

This blanket is going to be incredible. I love it, and the muted colors are going to be perfect, sometimes bright colors do not let you see the pattern. You did the right thing, bright can be beautiful but will get tiresome, this blanket will be around forever. I love the , "peeps" talk.
Hugs,
Meredith

Oh, I get so excited when I see such glorious colors as these. Then I see what you are creating with them and I am even more excited. Then I realize I STILL don't seem to be able to knit or crochet. I look at my lovely yarns and different kinds of needles and hooks in my big basket on the cabinet. I want to learn but I just don't get it. And, that makes me so sad.

Wow, that is amazing. Can't wait to see it finished. Is that just crochet yarn? It looks thin. I picked up my crocheting last year at Christmastime, but found it really hurt my hands whereas knitting doesn't. Different muscles we are using, I guess. I'd say to Sandy who wants to learn, maybe have somebody else give you a lesson. I tried several times and failed to knit, then sat down with a gal one day and I got it!

Dear Tanna, I like the colors you chose. The are classic.
I would choose these colors as well.
I hope the hectic will be very temporary for you and all will mellow with the warmth of the coming spring.
Blessings dear. Catherine xo

I love the rich colors of the madelinetosh yarns with dreamy depths that each seem to carry their own meaning. Your photography speaks in volumes Tanna. Exquisite!

Hi Tanna!
I love the colors you chose and look forward to seeing the finished creation. I hope I am one of your "Peeps".
I have ordered thread and needle to start the Downton mystery KAL. I have never done anything like this before and I am "old". I hope I will be able to figure it out.
Thanks for your visit and kind words. I am doing better. I go tomorrow for an A1C and I pray that is going to be good.
Love ya!
Marie

Yep. The perfect definition of peeps!

I love your colors and the look of the whole project. Of all the hand crafts, the only one for which I've ever had a bit of success is crocheting. (If you call mastering the granny square to the point where my never ending granny square became an afghan a success, that is.)

Hi Peep! How ya doin? :)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your stripey blanket. I remember seeing all the ones being made through the CAL. Absolutely gorgeous.

I know without a doubt, if I was doing it, my edges would not line up either, especially because of the different stitches in each row. Tension is different when you are working different stitches.

Sure looks like you are doing a fabulous job. Love the colors you've chosen. But goodness, that looks like thread, not yarn. What size hook are you using?

Have a wonderful week. Hugs, Tammy

I had to hop over to Laura's page to see how you defined "happy colors" because what you're working sure seems happy to me. (Unfortunately, I couldn't see it though because it was private.) That thing is awesome! Sure to bring a smile and snuggle the heart. I love it! Your peeps miss you! Xoxo

I want to be one of your peeps too :) This is so pretty. I love your color combinations. I have a hard time wearing (bright) colors too. I just ordered a "not so typical" pair of shoes that I know I'll take back because I'm a chicken and already think I'm too old to wear anything trendy. I am a grandma after all. Hopeful you have warmer weather :)

(the tray in your photos....is there a deer on it? I have a tray that looks like that which is from my childhood...just curious :) )
Love your blog!

I found this and adore this project. I don't know if you finished it but it is fabulous. Please tell me what kind of yarn it is. I cannot find this sort of color anywhere, I have been crocheting since childhood, over 40 years!
I love this work!
