Looking for Noni

Ever since returning from the watercolor seminar with Soon Y. Warren, I have harbored dreams of painting a likeness of a photo Amanda had sent me of Little Man.  I cannot begin to express the emotion this little photo could elicit from my heart of hearts.  I would look at it with tears streaming down my face... with sobs welling from deep inside.  It just touched me... in a way that few images do in a person's lifetime.  I would desperately want to scoop him up.  I have kept it where I could see it throughout my days.

I drew it a few days ago and today I started painting... It can still move me to tears.  I call it, Looking for Noni.  Now, I do realize that's not what he was doing... but, it is my own hope... for what he might do.  None of the photos are without the glare of glass because my friend, Patrice, matted and framed it before I could start tearing it apart with criticisms and the need to change it. I am most grateful.  But, the best part of all...

... is that it is already hung right beside my bed.  =)  This is by far my favorite project to date... just because I adore the subject so.  I texted Amanda a photo of the painting in progress... she said she would like one... I said the price was very, very high.  Something she might not be able to pay.  The price was Texas.  She said it was a price she would love to pay.  We both smiled.

...we both know she could have anything I have to offer.

Oh, oh, oh! And of course he's looking for you! So beautiful, Tanna--your heart spills out through the painting. Perfect hanging spot so you can look at it as you fall to sleep and wake again.

Thanks for your most gracious comments on five. Have a great weekend!

Yea for Patrice knowing you so well that she got that painting matted and framed before you could pick it apart. Now, that makes me smile for sure! I bet you hung that picture up right around the time Alex picked up our home phone today, put it to his ear and said, "Noni. Pop Pop." He was indeed looking for his Noni. I keep telling him you're coming to see him soon. He gets so excited! Me, too! Love you!

Oh Noni, truly a touching photo and your sketch needed NO changes!

I love the bedside photos....sweet dreams after looking at these little ones. I have an image that brought emotions from deep inside too! I treasure it. I am finally able to look at it without crying (if I don't look too long)

Your picture and your heart are beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with others who understand. I'm so thankful that he has a Noni and PopPop that love him so much and obviously good parents!

I think this is a painting every "far away" grandma, Nana, Noni, Nonna, etc, would adore and understand very well, Tana!! It's beautiful!

I'm glad to be back home from Sydney, Australia! It was a quick trip but very loooooong flights to and from.
