Simple Pleasures...

Time spent with family is always a pleasure... My brother, Jeff, and his wife, Brenda, have been in East Texas the past couple of weeks.  We spent one whole day in Gladewater, the self-proclaimed Antique Capital of East Texas, gathering supplies for this simple project.

We searched high and low for the "perfect" little soap dishes... and scented soaps...

I was excited to find this Hoenig of California Pottery apple from the 1950s for one of my dishes.

Brenda and I made simple crochet wash cloths from cotton yarns...  pattern here.  I tried several and this one was the one I liked best (for my tension and the way I crochet) ... so far.  I didn't do the edging (put it in and took it out... I just like the VERY simple look of this cloth).

These soaps were particular favorites because of their packaging as well as their scents... Green Leaf Market.

Each one has a scripture printed on the side...

These soap dish sets were such fun projects to gather and make with Brenda.  Simple pleasures...

We have so enjoyed their visit!!!

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Matthew 11:28

LOVE these Rolling Retirees!!

Until you come again.... love and hugs dear brother and sis-in-law!!  Thank you so much for rolling through with us!!

Wow they really have a big trailer. We are rolling but not retirees :-) Would love to find those antique shops. We will be back in Texas later this year, but I know it's a BIG state!

Love your project . . . crochet cloths and the pottery apple soap dish is perfect. Loved it.

I am always on a mission for fresh new soaps. Washing my hands with a bar of soap is much preferred by me. I just may try some crochet cloths. The crochet may treat my hands more tenderly than knitting. I don't have my usual dexterity since my accident . . .

I must go look up this pottery, so wonderful . . .
Hoenig of California Pottery . . .

If you send me your address I will send you some of my favorite soaps and sizes . . .
Love, Lynne

Sweet project! I think this is the pattern we use. Or similar. As always your color choice is wonderful. And what fun to have such special visitors--coming in such classy style!

My goodness they travel in style! I have six of those little green apple plates and the white apple container and green lid that goes with them. They were a gift to me from my friend, they were her MIL's.
Hugs to you,
Meredith

That's one of my favorite verses, one I count on often. Your blue pottery apple dish is a darling find! So many apple dishes from the 50s but I've never seen a blue one. How perfect it is with your crocheted washcloth and the soap you chose!

And a nice time with family to top it off, a sweet simple pleasure indeed!

Sounds like you had a great visit! A handknit washcloth/dishcloth with handmade soap is my favorite hostess gift, but adding a soap dish is a wonderful idea. Your apple once is adorable.
