Arroyo

There has been slow progress on ANYTHING around The Brick Street Bungalow.  So, I'm sharing a shawl I finished earlier this year.

The name of the pattern is Arroyo by Sarah H. Wolf.  I chose it for two reasons.  First, it allowed me to use the German Short Row method I had learned while doing the Dreambird (LOVE that way of doing short rows! One of the best things I've ever learned regarding knitting).  Second, it was supposed to use two skeins of Madelinetosh Vintage yarn (which I had).

The shawl turned out very nice; except for the fact, that even though I took a short cut to the end, I had to purchase another skein of the Vintage to finish (which thankfully was available).

It is a lovely pattern.  I would recommend casting on with a larger needle than you plan to use and doing it very loosely (the cast on edge restricted my blocking of the lace slightly).   Also, I don't think you can have any expectation of using only two skeins of the Vintage.

This was the remainder of the third skein.  I'm sure I will find another use for it; still, it kind of bums me out.

Hope each of you are having a wonderful week.  I literally sat with ice packs on the backs of my hands most of yesterday.  Monday, they hurt but not the burning fire they were the second day!!  I had used Picato, a medication prescribed by my dermatologist to treat pre-cancerous areas.  Needless to say, you don't get much done with your hands iced down!  They are better today and I'm moving on.  Whew!

What a special pattern, and yummy color.

I'm still working on my knitting, and after more than a dozen dish cloths, I've moved on to a simple scarf!

You will always be my inspiration!!

Hello, Tanna,

I just saw you over at my friend Susan's blog and thought I'd stop by and say hello.

Such a treat to see your beautiful work. I knit, but not as elegant a piece as that. Simply stunning.

That is truly beautiful, Tanna. I read down on your other posts and can't believe your little man is 4! Rachele will be 5 the end of August. They both still have that beautiful auburn hair.

I want to say how beautiful that is, because it IS. What I'm going to say instead is how sorry I am about your hands and hope that the ice packs helped. I do understand pain and hate for you!

I guess I missed something about your hands. That medication can burn I hear. Hope things are improving quickly, what would we do without our hands?

Love the color of this gorgeous piece...We are planning on teaching "our girls" knitting and crocheting this coming year (their request). Wish you could come along and teach. Your examples would inspire them to learn well!

I love the grace and color of that shawl. I'm so sorry you are having problems with your hands. Is it an allergic reaction to medication you've been taking? I hope you are soon back to your needles - knitting needles that is :-). Have a great day, Tanna. Blessings...Mary

Tanna, I don't even know where to start with this post. First, you photographed this with great lightening, not too much not to little...just right☺ It shows all the details, shimmer and elegance of your craft. Second, take care of those hands and give them plenty of rest, we only get two in life♥

What a beautiful shawl. I ran out of yarn on a shawl that I was making and had to order it online. Amazingly when it came it was the same dye lot.
Take care of those talented hands.

It is gorgeous but everything you do is! I am so sorry your hands are hurting. Not fun at all. Hope it passes away quickly.

I will be thinking of you.

I love this shawl! I too am enjoying the German short row technique I am learning via Dreambird, so this pattern is one I must try.

I don't know the history of your hands, but I am praying you are without pain soon.

God bless!

This is a masterpiece in my eyes, Tanna! Your Entrelac shawl is amazing!

I'm sorry about your hands! I have been getting some arthritic stiffness in my fingers since we moved. I'm sure it's a result of repetitive injury from opening box after moving box. Some of the pain went away--hopefully for good! Hope your hands feel better now, too!

Pondside said...

Every time you show a shawl I think 'I like that one best of all'...and so, too, today!
I do hope your hands are feeling better now, and that the treatment is as effective as it is uncomfortable!

That shawl is absolutely lovely. I don't know many other methods of knotting. I've been knitting since I was 12 but have only learnt the aran or fair isle I would like to try some new methods but am afraid of spending a lot on will...because, if it ever gets finished, you want a nice feel to the wool...and not ever finishing it...if you see what I mean. I think that I must get more adventurous!! Thanks so much. Joan

Extraordinary! The yarn color is dynamite and the pattern is mystical. I can see you wearing it when you are in a more dramatic mood, perhaps. So fetching! I hope your hands are all better now.
