You Call That Vacation?!

Okay... so it's been a couple of years since Noni and Pop Pop have had an "adult vacation".  Most of our time away is spent connecting with family... which we dearly love.  However, occasionally a couple needs to have some time away to relax and reconnect with each other.

That said, I'm not sure who is due the brunt of the blame... me, for having the idea to go to golf school for vacation... or Evan, for scheduling us in the three day boot-camp-of-a-golf-school we barely survived.  At any rate, it was pretty brutal... our instructor (in the middle, with another classmate on the left and Pop Pop on the right) worked us until E.V.E.R.Y. muscle, tendon and bone ACHED.  We had bandaids with Neosporin and/or tape on multiple fingers of each hand.  Advil was ingested four tablets three times a day.  Oh, my!!

Sadly and very much to our intense, but extremely kind, instructor's dismay, I never achieved a correct impact position (apparently critical to hitting a great golf shot).  Evan had it for awhile... then lost it.  Crazy how that can happen... but, I saw it with my own two eyes.

We had originally intended to participate in the golf school... come away with a new and improved game... then, leisurely play our way home, stopping off on courses along the way...

Instead, we tucked tails and hauled our weary, beaten down selves straight home... to sit on the couch for a whole day... licking our wounds and our bruised egos... just trying to recover.  Now, we are back up and ready to attempt again... to achieve the ever-elusive perfect impact position.   Ever-elusive... meet the ever-hopefuls... LOL!

Rest and relaxation... well, no.  But, we did have a good time.  And, we laughed a lot.  Something I treasure about our relationship.  Plus, after such a grueling vacation, returning to our normal schedules seems restful and almost appealing!!

Glad to be back...

So that's what you've been up to.
Miss you!

It sounded like a great idea, learn, play and laugh. At least you got to laugh. And like you said, a huge part of a relationship.

Welcome back to blog land.

So, what's your next adventure?
Skydiving? ha ha

Oh my goodness what a trip! But like you said, you had good times together laughing and just enjoying each others company, that's the best vacation in the world!

Sending you hugs, prayers and blessings as always to you dear friend and your Hubby, too. :)

This is funny! But I feel your pain. I'm not a golfer, and you can tell because I'm surprised it hurt so much -- don't you just walk around and hit the ball? :-) I know there must be much more to it! Glad you did get away and had time together, and doesn't home look so good when you get back!

Oops! I read that cobbler recipe several times before I posted it and never noticed the milk was left out. Thanks! And, thanks for asking about Andrew. He is almost back to normal. Our sweet young house cleaner has been coming every day to walk Oliver and twice a week to mow. I think she can do most anything!! I can't wait to see the Little Men at Disney World. What fun! Our little men went so many times (thanks to a sister who lives close and whose husband has lots of friends there who got us in free!) that they finally got tired of the whole scene for awhile. It sounds like you need a spa vacation right now!

Best,
Bonnie

So sorry your vacation was so painful, but I'm happy to know you got some laughs along the way! This is something you'll laugh about for years to come, I'm sure. (After the aches and pains subside.)
My son is the only golfer in my family, so I don't know a lot about it. I've always thought it would be fun to be playing on those beautiful golf courses.
Have a wonderful weekend!

A ha..so that is what you have been doing. Believe me, golf can be the most frustrating game there is. You can make it fun and laugh at yourself if you are not holding up the crew waiting behind you. It has to be fun otherwise it is work and too much competitiveness. Good for you.

oh my gosh, this had me laughing! your description of the ordeal and the 'tail-tucking' to return home was too funny!

Bless your heart. Great intentions, with just some minor snags....as in aching and exhaustion.
I so agree....we all need those special get-aways!!
Get some rest!

You have such a great writing style - I read every single word and I laughed so hard. I felt every bone in your body hurting. But you and your hubby had each other and did it together so that was a good thing - right? sandie

Christine asked about skydiving...well, now your impact position is going to be VERY important in that sport! LOL!!!!!

I would have never guessed golf school would be so brutal! Glad you survived...although barely...and hope you can put some of the tips to good use! Glad you can get home to rest vacation. lol....so cute.

Oh I had to chuckle at your tale of a grueling vacation. So glad even with every thing aching and sore you were able to laugh. You do have some very interesting adventures.

Oh my! I've never once played golf. I'm pretty sure my husband hasn't either. I imagine you would use all sorts of muscles you didn't even know you had. All that swinging and twisting. The walking would be my favorite part of it all. :) And just being outdoors. Hope you've recovered by now. Ha! Best wishes, Tammy

I golf like I play bridge - I'm an eternal beginner! I've played long enough to be on my third set of clubs and I STILL play like it's my first time. It's a good thing that, like you and your Dear Husband, we can laugh about it!

Oh my goodness it sounds like a bit of he**. I am not a golfer but appreciate the beauty of a course and the beauty of a good swing.
Hugs to you,

So glad you got in some good laughs with each other and you probably learned more than you think you did. Now, to rest up from that 'vacation'! Sometimes home just is the best place to be! love, d.

Oh dear, that does not sound like fun to me, but then I'm not a golfer, and don't intend to ever be one.
I hope you're enjoying the long weekend!

Tanna, Glad you laughed a lot and survived the intense training. I admire you for even trying. You have a way with words expressing so well with humor your " adult vacation". I would imagine I wouldn't last one day.

Epsom salt baths work wonders!

Well my dear-- to each his own---
The good news is that your sense of humor carried you through this "adventure". I'm betting your golf game WILL actually improve!! It's a great story--

Glad you're back relatively unscathed. We are headed off to a college reunion soon, and I'm hoping it will be a more restful get away than what you did. LOL

Jen Price said...

Well, good for you for trying! That's great you had a good time laughing, too.

OK, I just burst out laughing at the end part so loudly that my husband stepped in to see what was funny.

That part about tucking tail and running was so funny and unexpected to me. LOL

I know you had fun anyway, and I think it's a great idea for an adventure. I want to do something like that.

Someday.
When the last tuition bill is paid, and we have some extra cash. A woman can dream.

If our vacation serves no other purpose than to make us happy to back in our homes and in out old routines.. it's not a total loss!

Glad you know the gift of laughter.. :)

Laughing along Tanna, as we did this one summer along with our sons. I discovered my talent lies in driving the golf cart and watching my guys play!

I read this earlier but didn't have time to post a comment but I had to come back. This just cracked me up! My brother will love this because I am sending it to him! My father was a big golfer but I never had it and never will. Now at least you know and will never wonder if you could have been the next Tiger Woods!

Well Tanna...the WHOLE IDEA was stellar! Might not have played out QUITE the way you planned it. You can tell THAT story over and over again for the next 20 years!!!! GLAD you survived!
