Slow Progress... and Happy Flowers

This is a kitchen "before".... Seriously bland.  Nice to have lots of cabinets... but, some of them had to come out!

Now, there is a larger space for a new range (perhaps the price to my sweet Beloved for my letting go of our old home... just sayin').  You know the unwritten rule that EVERY remodel project always ends up taking L-O-N-G-E-R and costing MORE than you plan.  {{{sigh}}} I KNOW this... still, it frustrates me.  Opening the cabinet wasn't really a big problem... of course, we got it right on the SECOND round.  I think adding the height and additional depth to the upper cabinet really gave the whole kitchen a better look.  Worth the second try.

Running a gas line... went right on schedule.

But, the duct work for the vent-a-hood... well, that was CONSIDERABLY more involved than anticipated.  Involved having to move and suspend the HVAC unit in the attic to allow space for the duct to run up through the roof.  UN-anticipated.  Of course, at this point, you are way too far into it to turn back.  LOL!

They have started the hardwood floors as of yesterday... Should be a 10 day job.  I've used this guy for every floor of the Old Girls.  His crews are like clockwork.  If you ever need a hardwood floor (new or refinishing) person in East Texas, Leo Bolom is the man.

I'll be happy when we can use the garage for our cars instead of for holding our stuff!

In the meantime, I've done very, very little knitting or crocheting.  I AM about to head to Rose Path for a medicinal dose of Flower Power.  We are doing a little Crochet-a-Long today and next Thursday from 10-12 and I'm going to enjoy every second of it.  =)

Keep on keeping on...

Can't wait to see the kitchen all completed. Looks like you have a lot of light in there.

Have a great week. I remember those days when we recently and the garage was stuffed to the gills!

Oh how exciting...can't wait to see the finish product.

You certainly have your hands full, but knowing you...you are making things happened one step at a time.

Oh dear your garage looks like mine and were not moving. Just had to store so much moving from a big house...to our little cottage.

Good for you taking some time for yourself. Crocheting with others in a lovely little space is the right medicine I think. All the work at home will get done a little at a time. Have a great day. Tammy

Oh, the joys of remodeling!! I just love taking something bland and turning it into to something grand -- and you have such a talent for that! I can't WAIT to see the end result of all the projects you will be taking on. I sure wish I had your talents and ideas down here when I went through it this last time...I'm STILL trying to correct my mistakes!

Regarding the move...hang in there. I was unprepared for how tough our move to Katy was. It took me about 9 months to finally appreciate my new home and surroundings. You'll get there!

Love your crocheted square with the heart! Great pattern. It took us 35 years to tackle our kitchen, so I'd say you are way ahead! LOL

I'm sure having the end in sight helps through this process (is that a bear in your garage?) and it looks like it will be such a nice new kitchen! Look forward to seeing the transformation! You are so smart to get away for time with friends!

Can't wait to see it finished. So nice to have people you respect and can trust doing work for you.

Hang in there. It will be so beautiful and you will be thrilled. You are right it always takes longer and costs more than you expected.

Have a great weekend.

I always say if we ever move again a big commercial gas range is where the money will go first!! I wanted one when we built our house, but the funds ran out too soon. I can't wait to see the finished project. I know you will do it up right.

I have been thinking of you, sweet Tanna, and wondering just what progress was being made and how you were doing with it all. I know everything will be so beautiful and welcoming when you add all of your special touches to make this house your home. I look forward to more pictures.
Take care!

How exciting to be getting a new kitchen! Now the glitch, it's not good! How fun to have time to crochet with friends! That is a great idea! Have fun, Miss Tanna!

This is going to be exciting to watch. I left my client's house on Friday and the cabinets were being painted. Yes, always longer than thought and always more costly than thought, but the end is well worth it. Today I am working on sending my son, the contractor, more ideas to add to the kitchen...LOL
Enjoy!!!

Overwhelming, but still the anticipation of completion is so good. Keep the needles close and working!!

Wow - that's lots of work, but best to get it all done before you settle in, Tanna, and have everything the way you want it. We felt fortunate our house had all wood floors on the main level. I'm considering having our stairs and upstairs hallways and loft area done someday -- they are carpeted now. I don't mind carpet in bedrooms so I'd leave them be.

Wow what a nice kitchen! A bigger range will be wonderful.

It is going to be just plain beautiful. I'm sure of that! I do remember the process of doing what you're doing, and I well remember wanting my garage to store cars again.

I would say that I'm hit and miss in blog land these days, but frankly I am just MISS. I sure hope that my own crazy life gets back in order by the time your kitchen does.

Tanna, Well we both made it to closing and moving in....can you say AMEN!! I feel a hundred times better...how about you? We bought an older fixer upper too, but was fortunate to find one that is in good shape, so we are just going to take our time on the updates for now. Just having fun, decorating it with a rustic contemporary twist. Your kitchen will look fab when it is all done!!

I missed this post somehow. Now I will have to go searching to see if I missed any more. We just ran into another snag in the housebuilding process, too. Just makes the stories better to tell when it is all over….it will be all over some day, right? Glad you are getting your dream stove.
Love you.
