Of Hoot Owls and Hoot Hats

You may remember that I recently made this Hoot Hat for Little Roo's first birthday.

Well, today I was working away in my office when I get the feeling there are eyes on me... coming through the window.  And, their backs are turned in this photo, but if you'll look closely...

These are the piercing little eyes I saw gazing in at me!  I was so excited!!  I called the Little Men to facetime... I'm sure I never got a good shot for them to see, but it was fun!

Then, I went outside... this one even winked at me!!  They were so calm... so beautiful.  Help me out all my bird friends... please, tell us about these cuties!  What a wonder-ful treat today!

Somehow, I think this is a parent... just sayin'.  Oh, I so enjoyed my visitors today!!

And, in spite of my best efforts of convincing Little Man that he needed a Hoot Hat to match his brother's... so they could be like Noni's two visitors, he was not swayed.  Still wants no part of my Hoot Hats!!  LOL!  Hope  you find a moment of magic in your day!

That is exciting--to find these feathered friends outside your window. That Roo would be welcome as well--I'm sure!! Big Brother has made some cute appearances in some of your wonderful hats as I recall.
Sorry, don't know the species.

Best,
Bonnie

Oh Tanna... what a delight!
How lucky that you had such sweet little visitors!!

So rare to see owls in the day time too!

If hubby were home, he may be able to tell my what kind of owls those are... as for me, I'm no help... sorry..

Still LOVING that hoot hat, and of course Roo is a sweetie-pie!

He should be the official model for the hoot hats :)

Thanks for sharing such a delightful surprise.

Tanna -
I'm not a bird expert but I've always got my field guide handy and this is the 3rd time I've had it out this week...
maybe they're Eastern Screech Owls?

my book says the adults are red and I google imaged and this is the best picture I could find:

http://www.springcreekok.org/birds/birds.htm

scroll down and there's an eastern screech owl 5 pics down

Oh my! What a treat to see owls out your window and close up too!!! Their eyes are very beautiful, aren't they. I see the wink! It reminds me of the day that I was sitting in my backyard and suddenly a hawk flew into the yard and alighted on the bushes in my yard. It sat there and looked at me for several seconds and then it flew away, very suddenly.
Your little Andrew is SO cute! Oh my goodness! He is so adorable!!!

Certainly a magical moment ... And just a good reason to FaceTime those boys! Don't you think those owls planned it all? After all they probably spied you knitting and were quite honored! This is exactly what my friends would call a bloggable moment. ;-)

Well that is the neatest thing I've ever seen! I wouldn't have expected to see owls during the day. I'm amazed that you saw not just one but two in your trees too! You were at the right place at the right time! Love these pics.

I don't know which is cuter...your hat or the visitors...

LOVE the hoot owls!! Thank you for calling us to share - such a treat! Tonight I asked Alex again about a hoot hat as I was showing him the owl pictures and he said "yes!" he wanted one. I only had to bribe him with two blue M&Ms! Lol! I'm kidding - I didn't even bribe him at all! I'm taking advantage of his saying yes to ask you to whip one up for him before he tells me know again. He'll need one when the penguin comes up MIA this fall! LOL!

Darn blogger won't let me correct my typos from the phone! It's late, but I do know that "know" should have been "no." this is why I shouldn't be making comments past my bedtime or from my phone!

Yikes! How lucky are you? I have never ever seen an owl in real life just sitting and looking at me. I, too, think it is a parent and 2 babies out for some learning. Did you hear them hoot?
Did you explain to Little Man that you NEEDED to knit some more hoot hats to get your money's worth?

My magic moment today was when I saw my first lightning bugs of the season blinking in my yard when I got home after a LONG evening!

I adore these wildlife encounters. I can't believe you were blessed with a visit from owls during the day! You are so lucky and that photo of Roo is fantastic. I just keep thinking of "Where the Wild Things Are" - he is beautiful and so are the owls! Great photos.

How fun to see an Owl in the daytime and get such fabulous photos! Here’s a little Owl symbolism & folklore just for fun...If you have been visited by an Owl, you have been bestowed a great gift! The Owl symbolises transition, and as a creature of the night, is associated with the moon’s cycles of renewal. In Greek Mythology, the owl was a symbol for Athena, goddess of wisdom and strategy, and sat on her blind side, so that she could see the whole truth. Native Americans associated the meaning of owl with wisdom, foresight, and keeper of sacred knowledge. In parts of northern England it is good luck to see an Owl. I hope I remember to show you some fun owl paintings my art kids made. So much joy! Blessings on your visitation of the Owls Tanna!

The hats are adorable - but when a little fellow makes up his mind there's not changing it!
Owls at your window - there must be something magical going on.

Wow! Did you see three of them. That's amazing! They are so beautiful. We had to go all the way to Nepal to see owls last summer. Ha! My uncle in Mississippi was a wildlife ranger. He lived in the woods and always had all sorts of critters he was taking care of -- owls, deer, baby alligators ... you name it, he had it. Of course, your littlest man is soooooooooooo adorable in his hootie hat. Best wishes, Tammy

More sweet pictures for us to enjoy. The little guy is as cute as he can be. I am amazed that you could see the owls. We live not far from a raptor center. I'll take the photo with me to see if they can help with species identification. I hope all is well. Blessings...Mary
